OPERATION Transition leader Stefano Sweetman was praised by coaches for giving up smoking after smoking at the age of 12.
Stefano and her husband Gerard struggled this week as they quit smoking altogether.
And the night before they were about to have a smoke-free day, Stefano was nervous but optimistic.
He said, “I think I’ve come to the present moment [about] believe in yourself.
“I wouldn’t say I’m going to wake up tomorrow morning and not have a nervous breakdown because I probably will.
“I have to go with my journey.
“I’m feeling all over the place. I’m just emotionally stressed. Right now, it’s hard for the two of us.
“How will he cope? He’s been smoking since he was a kid. There were two of us in it together.
“We both have a tendency to cry and laugh and sometimes I forget. It’s not just me.”
But when the day came, Stefano made it through and it was Gerard who struggled.
Stefano said: “I feel fine this morning, a bit agitated. God help whoever comes near me today.
“I thought I was going to be so much worse, I thought maybe I’d hit the wall at 11, 12 o’clock because the only thing that would happen would be I would pop out a cigarette.
“I have my Nicorette stick and it’s like I’m going to play a mock game but I just use it.
“It’s still early days. I’ve already passed six so I think that’s good for me.”
Speaking of her husband, Stefano explained that Ger is more likely to show her emotions.
He said: “The difference between me and Gerard is that I’m a very closed person, so I don’t show a lot of emotions so even when I’m having a really bad day I almost try to I’m going to be fine when I’m hurting inside.
“But Ger is the opposite, if he’s having a bad day everyone will know about it.
“It’s not his fault. He’s just showing his feelings while on the other hand, I’m the one who would be” Oh, everything will be fine. There’s no point in stressing it, it’ll be sorted “.”
Gerard added: “I think he’ll rip his hair out and I’ll be the calm one.
“But now it’s the opposite, he’s the calm guy and that really excites me.”
Stefano lost half a pound this week but experts are more impressed by his determination to quit.
All praised the hairdresser and encouraged him to continue his detox journey.
Next week his goal is to lose 2lbs.
Some viewers also praised Stefano and his husband on Twitter after the show.
Rob tweeted: “Play fair to Stefano and Gerard for quitting for a week, and supporting each other in doing so.”
“I don’t think anyone has ever given up on the jokes in the presentation on this show,” Patsy said.
