Transgender inmate convicted of murder caught having drunk sex in cell

The prisoner allegedly got drunk on illegal home brew with a younger inmate and had consensual sex in their cell at HMP Bronzefield Women’s Prison.

A transgender inmate in a women’s prison was caught having drunk sex with another inmate.

The con artist was allowed to serve a murder sentence at HMP Bronzefield despite still having male genitalia.

The 43-year-old killer allegedly got drunk on illegal self-brew in a cell with a significantly younger inmate. They were then discovered having sex.

Panicked bosses at privately run Surrey Prison launched an urgent investigation after fellow inmates reported the consensual sex. The police were not called.

The trans inmate has since been moved 16 miles to HMP Downview, which has its own transgender wing.

A prison source said: “The bosses are trying to keep it a secret, hush. But everyone talks about it. The girl she had sex with moved to another block but has been telling people what happened.

“There’s an investigation into how they got their hands on alcohol and how it all happened. It’s gone up to the governor.

“Many women in this prison are concerned and vulnerable. This shouldn’t happen. This inmate was free to move about and mingle with the other women, despite having her functioning male parts.

“This is not the first time, and it will not be the last, that male sex offenders have been allowed to declare themselves female and transferred to women’s prisons.”

Sodexo, operator of Bronzefield, describes it as a “forward looking women’s prison” that houses a “mixed population of women”.

The prison opened in 2004 and houses up to 572 women.

The website adds: “We offer phones in every room, a 17-bed health facility, a care and separation unit, and a mother and baby unit for 12 women.”

Four years ago there was an outcry over the case of Karen White, a living woman and awaiting trial at New Hall Prison in York, when she sexually abused two female inmates.

White, née Stephen Wood, was previously convicted of indecent assault, indecent exposure and gross indecency.

Sodexo said: “We do not comment on individuals. We can confirm that we have received a report of inappropriate behavior and have taken the necessary immediate action.” The Department of Justice has been asked for comment.
