Holidaymakers hoping to travel via Manchester Airport received text messages from TUI at 2.30am canceling their holiday amid the ongoing “carnage” at the terminals.
Travelers were devastated after waking to messages from the airline informing them of canceled flights on the day of their departure.
Passengers at the airport faced massive three-hour waits for their luggage and huge queues. The Manchester Evening News reported.
Frustrated passengers hoped to get away over the half term and bank holiday weekend but instead got stuck in queues.
A number of irate Britons took to social media to vent about the chaos as TUI announced they would be canceling nearly 200 flights from Manchester Airport next month but have declined to say which.
One woman said she wanted to “cry her eyes out” after waking up to a text from TUI.
Jodie Frankland said this morning: “Waking up to an email that our holiday has been cancelled!! Literally cry my eyes out @manairport @TUIUK.”
Jules Kendrick was also sent a message about her canceled trip in the early hours of the morning. “@manairport @TUIUK we are flying on Sunday and received an email at 4am this morning saying the cancellation,” she said.
Councilor Pat Karney described the situation as “a mess” as he too was a victim of the cancellations. He tweeted an image of an email he received at 2.50am.
Alongside this, those whose vacations were not canceled sat in line for hours trying to check their bags and get through security.
Around 4am, Simon Stones shared a picture of a huge line stretching all the way to the Terminal 1 car park.
He said it took him about two hours and 40 minutes to check his bag with EasyJet and then get through security.
“This morning (4am) another carnage at @manairport T1…I didn’t even make it inside the building this time!” he said in a tweet.
Greg McCaw also reported long lines in Terminal 3. He said: “Terminal 3 at @manairport Endless lines, no seating, crowded. How could this terminal work in an emergency?”
Jaymeleigh McCarroll shared video of a crowded baggage claim area around 4:45 a.m. She described the scenes as an “absolute mess” with luggage left on the ground.
Around 2:30 am @RuinousHugh said he waited two hours to collect his luggage at Terminal 1. “Why the hell can’t you fix this?” he tweeted at Manchester Airport.
Philip Bennett also tweeted a picture of a crowded baggage claim hall in Terminal 3. He said: “Manchester Airport Terminal 3 baggage claim. 3:15 a.m. People wait over 3 hours for luggage. Shocking. No employee in sight. Welcome to Britain.”

This is sadly an increasingly common image for Brits, who have attempted to fly from a number of airports over the past few weeks and months.
Huge queues, cancellations and delays have become an almost common occurrence.
