Tributes paid when a farmer died after an accident in Galway

A man in his 60s died earlier this week after a fatal accident on a farm in Galway.

Ardaí took part in the incident that took place around 7pm on Tuesday in the Derreen area, near Gort.

The man’s body was taken from the scene to Galway University Hospital for an autopsy.

Gardaí and emergency services visited the scene of a fatal accident at work that occurred on Tuesday, April 12th of July 2022 in the Derreen area of ​​Gort, Co Galway,” said a Gardaí spokesman.

“Around 7:10 p.m., the body of a man in his 60s was found on a farm in the area.

“The man’s body was taken from the scene to Galway University Hospital where a post-mortem will take place at a later date.

“The Health & Safety Authority (HSA) has been notified and will conduct its own investigation.”

What happened in the accident is still unknown.

Cllr Geraldine Donohue, from Galway County Council, said: “My thoughts and prayers are with the family, friends and community of the Lord who lost his life at this very sad time.

“It is a terrible tragedy, his family needs the time and space to process the immeasurable loss they have suffered.”
