Tributes to the ‘gentleman’ carpenter who died of his injuries after falling off a roof

Tribute was paid to a carpenter who died of his injuries after falling off a roof.

Ark McKenna, 55, suffered serious injuries two weeks ago on July 15 while working on a house near Thurles, County Tipperary. He died of his injuries at Cork University Hospital over the weekend.

Paying tribute, Moycarkey Coolcroo Athletic Club said: “The Moycarkey Coolcroo AC is saddened by the death of former club athlete Mark McKenna.

“Mark competed with the club in the 1980’s, a highlight of which was winning the Tipperary Community Games 1500m and representing the club and county at the Community Games Finals in Mosney Co.Meath.”

Independent TD Michael Lowry said: “I send my sincere condolences to the McKenna family and to all those who are grieving the loss of Mark. May his soul rest in everlasting peace”.

Another local councillor, Sean Ryan (FF), said: “Mark was a gentleman. Sincere condolences to the entire McKenna family at this sad time’.”

Mr McKenna is survived by his mother Lily, brothers Michael, Paul and Liam, sisters Elizabeth, Deirdre, Claire, Mary, Siobhan, Helen and Catherine.

His funeral service will be held at Two Mile Boris Church on Tuesday morning, followed by burial in the adjacent cemetery.
