Fans of Trigger Point consider the series’ finale to be “very predictable” as ITV confirmed there will be another series of the show.
The six-part series, starring Vicky McClure as explosives officer Lana Washington, ended tonight – but viewers weren’t satisfied.
As the episode begins, team member John Hudson, played by Kris Hitchen is at the top of the list of suspects.
However, it was eventually revealed that the person behind the bombings was Lana’s lover Karl, played by Warren Brown.
After a rather far-fetched code-cracking exercise involving the periodic table, Lana realizes that Karl didn’t go to the by-election she controls to vote.
When he jumps onto the stage with a pack of dynamite strapped to his chest, it is revealed that the tortured spirit was behind the deadly attacks in the series, including the death of his brother Lana.
The producers were no doubt hoping for a high-octane track, but fans assumed they knew it was Karl.
One person took to Twitter to write: “So disappointing #Activation Points So predictably, know it’s Karl. Nearly everyone says the same thing. ”
Another said: “Called….but then again, not all of us?”
The third mused: “It was pretty obvious from the moment he appeared on screen.”
Another wrote: “Trigger point resolved two weeks ago.”
While the fifth joked about the former soap star Warren: “Once you’ve played the bad guy in hollyoaks, I’ll never trust you to be the good guy on any other show you’re on .”
The criticism came when ITV announced that they were refreshing the show for a second series.
As the credits rolled out, the broadcaster confirmed the news on social media.
Producer Jed Mecurio said: “Everyone at HTM Television is thrilled with the success of Trigger Point. Thank you to all of our outstanding cast and crew and especially to the audience who watched. in such a large quantity.
“We’ve had unwavering support from ITV throughout production, and we’re delighted to be working on a second series.”
Screenwriter Daniel Brierly added: ‘I am honored and delighted to have been given the opportunity to continue Lana’s story.
“I feel like there’s a lot of uncertainty in her future. It’s thrilling to see how the public has reacted to our show and I can’t wait to see what they do in the sequel. !”
