True crime newsquest

The True Crime Newsquest series is set to expand by splitting it into three distinct content areas – Solved and unresolved cases & Absence Persons.

  • Solved will provide an in-depth look at key UK cases, with unique insights from reporters and editors who have been at the heart of stories, from when the news first broke into their communities, to full-scale trials.
  • unresolved will delve into the baffling crime stories that have baffled detectives, aiming to showcase exclusive interviews, unearthed evidence or exhaustive research to give audiences unrivaled coverage of mysterious cases across the UK.
  • Absence will help raise public awareness of the people across the UK who have disappeared to find more information for the heartbroken families left behind.

Williams-Thomas will partner with Jody Doherty Cove, Special Projects Editor, to create content across the three strands.

The former detective recently completed a major research investigation into unsolved homicides and found that there are 2,617 such cases across the UK. He believes the real number will be more than 3,000 because police forces have not switched all of their paper files to computers and many missing persons cases will actually be homicides.

The earliest unsolved case is the murder of John Bianchi, recorded by Northumbria Police in 1919.

In addition to Solved, unresolvedand Absence Strands, which can also be seen on True Crime Newsquest’s YouTube channel and all other social media platforms, Williams-Thomas will also host a weekly CrimeBeat, a 90-second roundup of stories from Newsquest’s reporters.
