Donald Trump still doesn’t like sharks.
The former president turned a tirade against renewable energy into a wild explanation of why he would rather die if he were on a sinking electric boat.
“But when I sit down and the boat is sinking and I’m on a battery and the water starts coming in, I’m worried,” Trump said at an event in Iowa on Sunday. “But then I look ten meters to the left and there’s a shark over there. So I have the choice between electrocution and shark. Do you know what I’ll take? Electric shock. I’ll get electrocuted every time.”
The risk of electric shock in the water does not only exist with electric boats. Many gas-powered watercraft also have batteries that power the onboard devices. There were boaters and swimmers injured and died out of Drowning by electrocution over the years in waters around boats and docks, long before the development of electric boats.
The Says the Boat Owners Association of the United States These incidents are “often the result of faulty wiring and equipment on boats or docks.”
However, Trump is waging a vendetta against renewable energy, attacking everything from electric cars to windmills.
He also had a long-standing problem with sharks, according to Stormy Daniels, the porn star who says she had an affair with the then-TV host in 2006.
“He’s obsessed with sharks,” Daniels said in an interview with In Touch magazine in 2011. “Afraid of sharks. He said, “I donate to all these charities and I would never donate to a charity that helps sharks. ‘I hope all the sharks die.'”
Trump has denied having an affair with Daniels, but his lawyer Michael Cohen arranged a $130,000 payment to her in October 2016 to keep quiet about their relationship before the election.
Trump also accidentally confirmed her story about sharks.
“I’m not a big fan of sharks,” he said in 2020. “I get calls from people saying, ‘Sir, we have a fund to save the shark, it’s called Save The Shark.’ I say “No thanks, I can contribute to other things.”
