Trump says Biden must demand talks to end war in Ukraine

Former President Donald Trump has warned that the war in Ukraine could be headed for a “World War III” because “stupid people who don’t know anything” tell Russia’s Vladimir Putin “just the wrong thing”. He called for immediate talks to end the conflict peacefully.

“We have to be very smart and very quick. We need to know what to say, what to do. And we say exactly the wrong thing. We will end up in a third world war,” Trump said at a rally in Washington Mesa, Arizona, on Sunday.

“We must demand immediate negotiations for a peaceful end to the war in Ukraine, otherwise we will end up in World War III and there will never be a war like this,” the former president said. “We will never have had a war like this, and it’s all because of stupid people who don’t have a clue. And it’s also because of the kind of weapons that are available today.”

Trump’s observations came after President Joe Biden said last week that Putin was “not kidding” when he warned of the possible use of nuclear weapons and beckoned the “prospect of Armageddon.”

“We haven’t faced the prospect of Armageddon since Kennedy and the Cuban Missile Crisis,” Biden said, citing the 1962 standoff with the Soviet Union.

“We have a guy I know pretty well,” Biden said of Putin. “He doesn’t joke when he talks about the possible use of tactical nuclear weapons or biological or chemical weapons because his military is, you could say, well below par.”

In announcing his military mobilization decree, Putin accused the West of pressuring Kyiv into shifting military action to Russian territory and, in a veiled nuclear threat, warned that Russia “possesses various weapons of destruction more advanced than NATO -States”.

Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyi previously officially ruled out talks with Russia after Moscow decided to illegally declare the four regions of Donetsk, Luhansk, Kherson and Zaporizhia as Russia.

Kyiv believes Moscow’s sudden willingness to negotiate peace stems from its failure on the battlefield and a ruse designed to allow the Kremlin to retain control of the annexed parts of Ukraine while it rebuilds and prepares its shattered military to invade other areas of Ukraine .

In response to Zelenskyy’s decision, Russia said it would wait for Ukraine to sit down for talks on ending the conflict, noting that this might not happen until a new president takes office in Kyiv. Trump says Biden must demand talks to end war in Ukraine
