TUI warns of holiday shortages this summer

TUI has warned holidaymakers about a shortage of hotel rooms this summer, saying they should book now or risk missing out altogether.
Fritz Joussen, CEO of TUI, also warned Brits not to count on “last-minute discounts” this summer.

He explained that the shortage was not just due to demand, but also because people were booking longer vacations.
That increase equates to an average vacation of 9.5 days versus an 8.5 day vacation, which he says has made a big difference.
He told the Independent: “While that doesn’t sound like a lot, it’s very big – we’re consuming 12-13 per cent more housing.
“That will have an impact later in the season.”

“If you don’t book now you will have trouble finding a decent holiday.”
He added that this will be particularly the case during the peak summer holiday season in July and August.
The best way not to miss a vacation is to book it as early as possible.
However, if you’re not sure where or when you want to travel, consider booking a vacation package with free changes so you can reschedule at the last minute.
This may incur an additional cost but means you can secure your trip before they sell out.
Martin Lewis also revealed how you can save money if your hotel goes down in price by canceling the original booking and rebooking at a lower rate.
Not only holidays abroad are affected by the pent-up demand, British staycation hotspots are also in short supply.
Visit Cornwall boss Malcom Bell previously warned that anyone planning to visit the region may not have much choice unless they book sooner rather than later.
He told Sun Online Travel: “If you want to get what you want, book as early as possible.
“Many bookings have been carried over from last year, so start your research now.”
