TV and radio schedules adjusted after Boris Johnson’s resignation

Some radio and television schedules have been adjusted to provide continuous coverage following Boris Johnson’s resignation as Tory leader.

TV has confirmed that Loose Women will not air today due to the length of the ITV News program following the political news.

The lunch timetable program usually starts at 12:30pm after This Morning, hosted by Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield.

A statement posted on the show’s Twitter page announced: “Due to the length of @ITVNews, this lunch hour regarding Boris Johnson’s resignation, @Loosewomen will not be broadcast today.”

It follows BBC Radio 4’s schedule adjustment on Thursday morning to address the political consequences.

Today’s flagship news program, hosted this morning by Nick Robinson and Mishal Husain, normally ends at 9 a.m. but has been extended until 10 a.m.

On the show, Robinson said: “By the way, let me tell our listeners that for those of you watching this movie, don’t count where you’re going next, you’re not going anywhere, we’re not going anywhere. I’m broadcasting.

“The Today program will give you coverage no later than 9:45 a.m. or if Boris Johnson resigns before that, we will continue to broadcast.”

BBC One continues the broadcaster’s coverage with presenter Huw Edwards hosting a News Special on the channel from 11am.

While BBC Radio 5 Live will now provide non-stop news until 7pm, with Wimbledon radio moving to Radio 5 Sports Extra.

Elsewhere at ITV, its Lunchtime News program was broadcast until 4 p.m., according to its online TV guide.
