ChuckleVision fans may soon see the return of the iconic Chuckle Brothers to screen in the form of an animated series.
The Chuckle Brothers’ Slapstick duo – real names Barry and Paul Elliott – entertained many with the BBC children’s program ChuckleVision, which ran between 1987 and 2009.
Children’s TV producers are currently in talks with broadcasters, including the BBC, to make 26 episodes of the animated series return.
Some of the original scriptwriters for the show, with the brothers’ infamous catchphrase “To me, to you”, are said to be involved in the project.
Paul, 74, whose brother Barry died aged 73 in 2018, is said to be voicing his own character, while an actor will play Barry.
I said Sun : “I missed Barry terribly. Now it will be like working with him again. I can’t wait to be able to say ‘To me, to you’ again. ”
Kevin Neale of Kidation producer said: “The brand is so popular that you don’t even need a pilot. We are negotiating with the BBC. ”
Last year, Paul started a crowdfunding to help make his dream of restarting ChuckleVision a reality.
“With Barry’s sad passing, fans were asking if there was a way to see a version of ChuckleVision,” he said at the time.
“The only possible way is a cartoon. So, if someone has a little extra cash, we’re trying to sponsor a pilot of a short animation. “
Paul wanted to entice people to hand over cash by promising that anyone who donated £2,500 would be rewarded with a character named after them in the cartoon and the chance to voice the character.
A notice on the website explains that the series will be called Chucklesworld and how the money raised goes to making a special pilot episode.
