Will Smith’s behavior at the Oscars has sparked outrage from TV viewers – many have reportedly complained to the Federal Communications Commission (FCC).
The 53-year-old actor has come under fire in recent days after he rushed to comedian Chris Rock and slapped him in the face after he made a joke about Will’s wife Jada Pinkett Smith.
And now it’s been reported that a total of 66 viewers have complained to the FCC – a US government agency that regulates television, according to TMZ.
It is alleged that viewers are demanding fines and even citing BLM.
In complaints received by the outlet, people had emailed about what they saw Sunday night and many were furious.
According to TMZ, a Michigan viewer wrote: “The level of violence one black man inflicts on another over something he did not like to hear is unbearable!! Do you tolerate that??? Thought black lives mattered? Obviously not! ! Is this your message???? Smith should get a fine and a suspension!!!!”
Another wrote: “Obviously the Oscars crossed a line last night. I shouldn’t have to worry about what my KIDS are going to hear during the Oscars presentation. Fines and people getting fired because of it. Haven’t we learned anything in the decades since the Super Bowl debacle? Overall you have an easy job. Do it!”
Meanwhile, the publication reports how many parents complained that their children watched an assault live on TV.
It comes after Oscars organizers claimed Will was asked to leave the Oscars following his altercation with Chris, but he refused, breaking the code of conduct.
The organization said in a statement: “Things developed in a way that we could not have foreseen.
“While we want to clarify that Mr. Smith was asked to leave the ceremony and refused, we also recognize that we could have handled the situation differently.”
Many people questioned why Will was able to remain seated in the audience after the slap, but it seems the academy got the records right.
It was later reported by TMZ that Will was “never” asked to leave the ceremony, according to sources.
