Peacock’s Twisted Metal TV series is taking shape, and more stars are signing up for the live-action adaptation of the classic PlayStation video game.
In 2019 it was announced that Sony was developing a twisted metal series, but now the wheels are firmly in motion. Cobra Kai writer and producer Michael Jordan Smith is showrunner, writer and executive producer of the half-hour series, which will be based on an original story from the Twisted Metal universe written by Deadpool writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick.
Series star Anthony Mackie is on board as Executive Producer alongside Electric Avenue’s Will Arnett and Marc Forman, Inspire Entertainment’s Jason Spire, Artists First’s Peter Principato, PlayStation Productions’ Asad Qizilbash and Carter Swan, along with Hermen Hulst, Head of PlayStation Studios, and Kitao Sakurai, who will direct several episodes.
The show revolves around a mechanically gifted misfit who is offered a shot at a better life, but only if he can successfully deliver a mysterious package across a post-apocalyptic wasteland. He is joined by a trigger-happy car thief who helps him navigate the perils of the open road, including a mad clown driving an all-too-familiar ice cream truck.

Twisted Metal: The Cast of the Live-Action Series
Anthony Mackie as John Doe
Marvel’s new Captain America, Anthony Mackie, has been cast to star in the Twisted Metal series, on which he also serves as executive producer. It was announced that he had joined the series in September 2021 after stepping down from his titular role in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier for Disney+ earlier in the year.
According to a press release, Mackie will play the amnesiac John Doe, “a shrewd, motor-mouthed milkman who talks as fast as he drives and faces rampant vehicles of destruction while delivering much-needed supplies from one post-apocalyptic settlement to another,” until he ” is offered a unique opportunity to make his desire to find fellowship come true”.
Stephanie Beatriz as Quiet
Brooklyn Nine-Nine alum Stephanie Beatriz has signed on to star alongside Mackie in the Twisted Metal series, playing Quiet, “a wild, badass car thief who acts purely on instinct.” Beatriz steps into the role, having recently starred in Disney’s Oscar-winning animated film Encanto and Warner Bros.’ Film adaptation of Lin-Manuel Miranda’s In the Heights.
In Twisted Metal, Beatriz’ Quiet hails from “a community that has silenced her,” but a press release notes that she’ll struggle to find her place in the dark, chaotic world of high-octane action-comedy. On this journey, she becomes “clouded by her need for revenge” and “forms an unlikely, antagonistic bond with John Doe.”
