“If you see an edited tweet, it’s because we’re testing the edit button,” the official Twitter account said this morning.

A company to blog explained that tweets can be edited to “fix typos, add missing tags, and more.”

Users can edit posts “a few times” within 30 minutes of sharing tweets with their followers.

The blog noted that a small group was chosen to test out the feature in its early days.

The company will monitor how the feature is used or abused.

Twitter Blue subscribers will be the first users to access the new feature after the testing round.

Twitter’s blog says the extension of the editing feature to Twitter Blue subscribers will come “later this month.”

Twitter Blue users who are “localized to a single country” will be part of the testing phase.

Users encountering edited tweets can view the post’s change history.

Twitter’s introduction of an edit button is met with much suspicion and controversy by users.

Users have raised concerns that tweets they like or retweet are edited to remove their context or meaning.

“There is no way to implement an edit button without opening up opportunities for online abuse,” said one user Posted.
