Two people were killed and five others injured in a shooting at a Los Angeles park where cars were on display Sunday afternoon, authorities said.
The attack happened in Peck Park in the community of San Pedro and may have involved more than one gunman, Los Angeles Police Department Captain Kelly Muniz said at a news conference earlier this evening.
“Some weapons were found,” she said.
Four people were hospitalized in critical condition, Los Angeles Police Department waterfront commander Commander Jay Mastick said earlier.
The injured were between 23 and 54 years old, said Capt. Erik Scott of the Los Angeles Fire Department at the press conference.
Muniz said an impromptu car show in the park was the “draw” for up to 500 people to gather there before gunshots rang out. The victims were originally at the park’s baseball diamond, she said.
Police and firefighters said the attack was reported around 3:50 p.m
No suspect or suspects have been identified or arrested, but police are looking for a white Mercedes-Benz that may have been involved in the attack, Mastick said ahead of the news conference.
Officer Luis Garcia said the large number of officers ordered to the incident inspired the LAPD to issue a citywide tactical alert that allows officers to remain on duty beyond their shifts and allows them to to pay overtime.
The Los Angeles Fire Department broken down the seven total injury cases as four men and three women, whose ages are not yet known.
