Two Gardaí injured after brutal attack in Ballyfermot as shocking video of incident emerges

Two Gardaí were injured after a group attack in Ballyfermot overnight.

A Garda male is hospitalized with head injuries, while a female police officer was also injured after the incident outside a pub on the main street.

They were responding to reports of an argument that spilled into the streets before a number of people turned against them.

The incident comes just weeks after a high-profile ramming incident in Ballyfermot, after which further resources were promised to support Gardaí in the area.

Video footage of the latest incident shows Gardaí attempting to intervene in a dispute between several people.

The male officer can be seen receiving a series of kicks and punches to the head from several men.

He is believed to have required stitches in the head and is currently being treated at St James’ Hospital.

The female Garda was also targeted during the incident and is recovering at home.

A recording of the incident shared on social media also taunts the gardaí who was attacked with the caption: “Guards will be disbanded” along with two smiling face emojis.

So far, three people, one woman and two men, have been arrested in connection with the incident and are being questioned at different Garda stations.

A fourth person, who sources said was one of the main perpetrators, is still at large.

In September, two Gardaí required medical treatment and were fired after their squad car was rammed on Cherry Orchard Avenue.

Two stolen cars were used to crash into their vehicle when the joyriders were goaded by a large group of youths.

Four teenagers have since appeared in court in connection with the investigation.
