CHICAGO (AP) — Two women were injured in a shooting during a White Sox baseball game at Guaranteed Rate Field Friday night.
According to Chicago police, a 42-year-old woman suffered a gunshot wound to the leg and a 26-year-old woman suffered an abrasion to her abdomen. The 42-year-old woman was in good condition at the University of Chicago Medical Center. The 26-year-old woman refused medical help, police said.
The Chicago Police Department says their information is still preliminary as detectives are investigating.
“Upon receiving notification of this incident, CPD responded immediately and deployed additional resources while coordinating with White Sox security to ensure the safety of those who were present or working on the game.” the police said in their statement. “At no time was it believed that there was an active threat.”

According to the White Sox, investigators are not sure if the shots were fired from outside or inside the ballpark. The injuries sustained them halfway up section 161 in left midfield.
“While police continue the investigation, White Sox security confirms that this incident did not involve any altercation,” the team said in its statement.
“The White Sox are thinking of the victims at this time and wishing them a speedy recovery.”
Major League Baseball didn’t provide details but said it was in contact with the team and the Chicago Police Department.
The announced quantity for the game – a 12:4 defeat for the Chicago White Sox vs. Oakland – was 21,906. A postgame concert featuring Vanilla Ice, Rob Base and Tone Loc was canceled due to “technical issues,” according to the team.
