Two large farms in the market place in Rebel County

Two large Cork Farms in the market to the west and east of the county will certainly find local custom.

Orc farmers are never afraid to travel in search of good land, but they like nothing better than to shop locally when the opportunity arises.

To the west, John Hodnett is managing the auction sale of a €7,905.60 115ac non-residential farm with entitlements in Glenbanoo Upper, 7km east of Bantry.

Closer to the southern capital, Dan Fleming is privately selling a 128ac farm at Ballindenisk, Watergrasshill, off the M8.

The 115ac farm in Glenbanoo, Bantry has entitlements of €7,905.60 per annum.

The Bantry farm is listed at €800,000 to €850,000. While the Watergrasshill stake is being offered for €14,000/ac or nearly €1.8m, the auctioneer is expecting a little more.

Glenbanoo Holding is a typical weed farm serviced by a working farm divided into two divisions with good road access.

It has been a dry cattle farm for the past 12 years but was once a dairy farm. Laid out in a series of large fields, it is well fenced and has been well managed over the years.

According to John Hodnett, the farm buildings are in good condition and include a slatted barn, a cubicle barn with scrapers and a simple feeding system, a machine shed and a selection of quality general purpose sheds.

Other buildings at Glenbanoo include a machine shed and a selection of multi-purpose farm buildings.

The farm also has a slurry collection system installed to a very high standard.

The site is offered for sale in two plots consisting of 41ac with the farm buildings or a 74ac plot.

The auction will take place online on the LSL platform on Wednesday 12 October at 12 noon. All bidders must register with the auctioneer before the auction.

Watergrasshill grass farm consists of seven or eight large fields fenced with traditional hedges.

The farm at Watergrasshill extends to 128ac and is priced at over €14,000/ac.

“It’s ideal for tillage or cows and has a lot of road frontage from a field,” explains Dan Fleming.

This is one of Cork’s strongest agricultural areas and the auctioneer reports strong interest in the sale, not only from farmers but also from business interests in the city.

Watergrasshill is street fronted and served by an access road.

The property was once part of a local estate and has no buildings but does have electricity and running water. It would make a good standalone farm or an essential addition to any running farming operation. Two large farms in the market place in Rebel County
