Two men arrested after Chelsea star Antonio Rudiger was thrown by an object during victory over Tottenham

TWO men were arrested after the object was thrown at Antonio Rudiger during Chelsea’s 2-0 win over Tottenham.
The FA have launched an urgent investigation after items – one of which appeared to be a lighter and the other a bottle opener – were believed to have landed on the midfielder.
Attempts to identify the culprit were made by the Metropolitan Police, who confirmed two men had been arrested.
The incident occurred while Rudiger was near the away area – with Spurs fans becoming frustrated by deficit 2-0.
Rudiger informed referee Paul Tierney of the incident but he decided not to make matters further.
Reacting to the incident Thomas Tuchel says: “If it’s a new trend, we should work together to stop it as soon as possible to protect the environment of this game and the atmosphere that is completely unique in the UK.
“I love having the fans come close to the pitch.
“Not behind the fence and not behind the net. It was a brilliant atmosphere.
“In general, I am not concerned. I enjoy this atmosphere, also in away stadiums, it’s brilliant.”
A spokesman for the Metropolitan Police said: “Two men have been arrested on suspicion of throwing objects from the stands during Chelsea vs Tottenham Hotspur at Stamford Bridge. They have been taken into custody.
“Investigations, in conjunction with Chelsea FC and Tottenham Hotspur FC, are underway to identify anyone else who was involved in the throwing of objects during the match.”
And after the game, a Spurs spokesman said: “Regarding the Rudiger incident, we will work with Chelsea to review the tape and take any appropriate action.”
That wasn’t the only incident of fans launching rockets onto the pitch this weekend.
There were similar scenes at Goodison Park after Everton fans reacted angrily to Aston Villa’s celebration.
