Two men arrested by Gardaí investigating the murder of Mahamud Ilyas are due in court today

Two men arrested by Gardaí who are investigating the murder of Muhamud Ilyas have been charged and stand before Blanchardstown District Court today.

The 22-year-old man was beaten to death on December 9 and his body was dumped in a field on the Meath-Dublin border.

Two men, both in their 20s, were arrested by the Gardaí and Blanchardstown Garda Station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984.

They were the third and fourth men arrested as part of the massive investigation into Ilyas’ death.

Gardaí had been looking for the conversation with the duo for several weeks but could not find them.

The men arrested were known to Mr Ilyas, who lived in the West Dublin area with his family, who are originally from Somalia.

Most recently, on 15 December, two other men arrested by Gardaí in the investigation into the murder of Mr Ilyas were released without charge after being held at Blanchardstown Garda Station for several hours in connection with the matter.

The men, one in their 50s and the second in their late teens, were both arrested as part of this investigation and a file on their alleged role is being prepared for the chief prosecutor.

The investigation is being led by Blanchardstown Gardaí, who were made aware of the murder on Saturday afternoon December 10 after a dog walker discovered the body of Mr Ilyas, who then alerted a local farmer.

After an autopsy the following day, his body was formally identified and his family informed of his death.
