Two men have faced charges after attacks on Dublin city center on New Year’s Day

Two men have appeared in court charged with assault after two other men were attacked meters from Dublin’s Grafton Street last night.
The incident happened at 11.20pm on Anne’s Lane, off South Anne Street, when the victims, aged in their 20s, were seriously attacked in the open street.
Both men were taken by ambulance to St James’ Hospital where their injuries, which are believed to be non-life threatening, were treated.
During a subsequent search of the area, two men were stopped and arrested by Gardaí.

They were taken to the Pearse Street Garda Police Station where they were being held under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act.
They have been charged with assault under Section 3 of the Non-Fatal Offenses Against the Persons Act and appeared before Judge Vincent Deane at a session of the Dublin District Court of Criminal Courts this morning.
Jeffery Iyobosa, 21, a student with an address at Barnwall Crescent, Dublin 8, has been charged with assault.
Garda Danny Fetherston, of Pearse Street Garda Station, told Judge Deane that Mr Iyobosa had not responded to charges.
He did not object to bail on agreed terms, which included posting his own bail of €100, that the defendant stay away from Dublin 2, that he report to Kevin Street train station between 9am and 9pm every day and that he was not in touch the injured party.
Daniel Olasunbo, 22, with an address in Fairfield Park, Kilcohan, Co Waterford, has been charged with two counts of assault.

Garda Ricky Cunningham or Pearse Street Garda Station told Judge Deane that Mr Olasunbo had made no comment on one of the charges and in response to the other charge said: “I don’t know these people. I only met one person.”
He did not object to bail on agreed terms, including posting his own bail of €100, that the accused stay away from Dublin 2 and that he report to Blanchardstown Garda Station between 9am and 9pm Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
Both men were remanded in custody on bail to appear in court again on January 30 for instructions from the chief prosecutor.
Both men were also granted legal aid.
