An ambulance spokesman said they were called at 11:08 p.m. and an air ambulance was dispatched.

James Carter, 40, from nearby Billinghay, caught the sight on Monday morning while walking his dog with his girlfriend.

He told the Mirror: “We saw a large cargo van, a converted camper, and the police were taking various things out and taking pictures of them and putting them in their lorries.

“At around 11:30 a.m. yesterday, we were walking the dog and it was clear that something bad had happened.

“There was another car parked in front of the passenger van, a black one. Both are cut off.

“Then we heard that a baby had died and felt we had to come here and order some flowers.

“It’s tragic.”

Chief Supt Andy Cox previously said: “This is a particularly sad incident, and one that we know will affect the local community, or indeed anyone who hears about it.

“There can be a temptation to speculate about what happened while people try to understand this tragedy and we ask that everyone avoid doing so, especially on social media where Truth can be distorted. Two released people are being investigated after the baby was killed by a 'husky dog'
