Two women “sexually assaulted in line to see Queen lay in state,” the court said

Two women were allegedly sexually assaulted in line to take part in the Queen’s state lie, a court has heard.

Dio Adeshine, 19, reportedly stripped naked and pushed into mourners from behind as they waited in line at Victoria Tower Gardens on Wednesday after Westminster Hall opened its doors to the public.

He is said to have gone into the Thames to avoid police before coming out and being arrested.

Adeshine was remanded in custody on Friday after being charged in Westminster Magistrates’ Court with two counts of sexual assault and two counts of breaching a sexual harms prevention order.

Wearing a gray prison tracksuit, he spoke to confirm his name, date of birth and address in Walworth, south-east London, before pleading not guilty to the charges.

Outlining the allegations, prosecutor Alex Adowale said: “The accused was part of the queue to see Queen Elizabeth II’s rest.”

His alleged victims were said to have been among the thousands of people who lined the banks of the River Thames to see the Queen’s coffin.

The court heard that the first applicant allegedly noticed Adeshine because she had not seen him before, despite waiting in line with the same people for hours.

She is said to have noticed that he approached her before she felt something touch her back and then turned to see that he had exposed himself.

The woman later reportedly witnessed Adeshine acting similarly towards another woman before security was alerted and the police called.

He is said to have thrown his phone in the Thames before going in the water himself, but was arrested shortly after exiting the river.

The Deputy Chief Magistrate refused to release Adeshine on bail and remanded him before his next appearance at Southwark Crown Court on October 14. Two women “sexually assaulted in line to see Queen lay in state,” the court said
