Two young men killed in separate road collisions

Two young men died in separate road accidents on Ireland’s roads yesterday.

n Co Tipperary, a man in his 30s, died in a road accident last night.

At around 21:45 Gardaí were made aware of a single car collision which occurred on the R664 at Garyduff, Aherlow, Co Tipperary.

A man in his 30s, the driver and only occupant of the car, was pronounced dead at the scene.

His body has since been taken to the morgue at Waterford University Hospital, where an autopsy will take place at a later date.

The road is currently closed to allow for a technical investigation by forensic collision investigators. Local diversions have been set up.

Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the clash to come forward.

All road users who may have camera footage (including dashcam) who were in the area at the time are asked to provide such footage to the Gardaí investigation.

Meanwhile, in Co Tyrone, a man has died after a road accident involving a recovery truck.

Lee Usher, 21, from Portadown, died at the scene of the accident on Tullywiggan Road in Cookstown on Wednesday.

Sergeant Joanne Boyd said: “Officers along with colleagues from the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service and Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service received a report of a collision in the Tullywiggan Road area just before 3.45pm and acted on it.

“The collision occurred near the intersection with Bramble Lane.

“The road was closed for some time but has since reopened.

“Our investigation continues and the Collision Investigation Unit is appealing to anyone who was in the area at the time who may have witnessed the collision or saw Lee or the vehicle in the area at the time of the collision to contact police on 101 Specification of the reference number 1165 from 06/04/22.

“We’re also very interested in speaking to anyone who may have dashcam or other footage.” Two young men killed in separate road collisions
