Tyson Fury and Dillian Whyte’s 10-year Twitter exchange reveals the couple had a friendship before their relationship turned sour when they became heavyweight rivals.
The pair are set to battle for Fury’s WBC heavyweight title at Wembley Stadium tonight, with a record crowd of 94,000 expected in the capital. Fury and Whyte have shown mutual respect throughout the fight week build-up Shaking hands both at the press conference and at the weigh-in before the historic event.
Fury and Whyte previously exchanged further Twitter 10 years ago, Whyte reached out to Fury to ask how he was doing, tweeting: “You big man how is your end?” Fury was quick to reply: “Good workout hard to get it in shape! Whyte then asked: “Do you know who you’re fighting yet?
Whyte continued the exchange by lashing out at other fighters in the division: “Ok that would be a good mate but nobody wants to fight nobody these days what’s up mate? I don’t understand that, p****. Fury replied, “I know! I was going to wait until the prize fight as he’s taller, but I’m sick of that shit so it’s time to KO the hard-on!”
The ‘Body Snatcher’ then ended the friendly conversation, tweeting: “Haha can’t wait for this fight it’s going to be a crazy fight.” Whyte was previously unveiled as a sparring partner for two of Fury’s camps. He was first invited to Fury’s training camp to prepare him for his clash with Martin Rogan in 2012.
Whyte was also invited back a year later as Fury began preparations for a possible clash with David Haye, which ultimately didn’t materialize. The pair later gave different accounts of the sessions after the rivalry escalated, but both expressed respect for one another as an initial friendship formed.

Fury explained their previous relationship and even humorously claimed that the pair slept together. “Dillian came in and did his job along with the other guys,” Fury said. “He was there, helping me prepare for a fight. It’s not whether he beat me in a spar or I beat him in a spar, we worked together there and we were good friends. We went out for drinks together, we ate together, we slept together.”
Their relationship later soured after the couple spent several years exchanging fiery words on social media over a fight that didn’t materialize during Whyte’s status as the WBC’s leading heavyweight contender.
Whyte opened up about his relationship with Fury, claiming the pair have been “cool” in the past. “Me and Tyson were cool once,” Whyte said. “It wasn’t even sparring partners that I brought in to help him throughout training camp. I was in there and lived with him for months at a gypsy camp in Warrington.
“We spent a lot of time together, I also went to Belgium with him. I was cool with the guy, I didn’t have a problem with him, but then suddenly you know how Tyson is, he starts talking. You’re a giant, you don’t have to yell and yell, I don’t understand why to be honest.”
