A WOMAN who was abused by a pedophile as a child has described her attacker as “manipulative and dangerous”.
She was speaking as Gavin Wright, 50, of Norfolk Way in Uckfield, was jailed for his crimes.
He subjected her to a series of sexual assaults as a ten-year-old girl more than a year ago 16 years ago.
He had tried to gain her trust before systematically abusing her for his own sexual gratification.
Wright has been convicted of six counts of sexual assault and possessing and distributing indecent pictures of children and was sentenced to seven years in prison at Chichester Crown Court this month.
The victim, who cannot be named for legal reasons, said she found the courage to tell police what happened to “expose him for who he is to the world – manipulative and dangerous – and to ensure that what I went through must never happen again and affect the life of every other young person”.
She said: “Nobody deserves something like this to happen to them. He deserves to face the consequences of his actions now and in the future.”
After Wright was arrested, police found indecent pictures of children being abused in his possession and discovered that another sex offender texted him and sent pictures, which he then forwarded to others.
Wright will be a registered sex offender for life, issued a restraining order to forbid contact with his victim and a sexual harm prevention order restricting his access to children and digital devices.
He was sentenced to four and a half years for sexual assault and an additional two and a half years for his online offences.
A police spokesman said victims of historic sex crimes could come to the police “at any time, no matter how long after the events”.
He said: “Contact Sussex Police on 101 and arrange a confidential interview with experienced investigators.
“Your report will be taken seriously and followed up to seek justice, and you will also have access to independent sources of advice.”
