Tecia Torres has been suspended indefinitely following her loss to Mackenzie Dern at UFC 273 last weekend.
The Florida State Boxing Commission suspended 14 fighters competing on the pay-per-view card, but senior strawweight Torres was the only fighter to receive an indefinite suspension. Torres went three rounds with Mackenzie Dern on the main card in a back and forth battle. One judge ruled in favor of “Tiny Tornado” while the other two ruled in favor of Dern, giving the Brazilian a split decision win.
Unlike most other state athletic commissions, Florida’s commission does not disclose the nature of suspensions. Why Torres has been suspended indefinitely is unclear. Reflecting on her post-fight loss, Torres wrote, “50 fights in. Between my amateur and pro kickboxing, muay thai and MMA careers, I hit fight #50. Also my 15th fight with the UFC.

“I respected Mackenzie’s ground game and hesitated more than I should have. I feel like a winner, but it was an honor to share the octagon with Mackenzie Dern. I am sure we will see each other again in the future. Congratulations Chica!
“I went ‘toe to toe’ with a multiple World Champion black belt and was able to hold out and defend with her best arsenal (Jiu-Jitsu), not many women would have made it out of Round 2. There’s a reason I’ve been in this fighting game for so long.”
“I really think I was born for this. I live to fight another fight. Next time I’ll be back with more intensity and skill! Until then, I’ll be enjoying some family time and awesome 115 matchups in the coming months!
Torres has maintained her No. 7 spot after the loss at 115 pounds, while Dern has moved up to No. 4 in the division. The loss for Torres sparked a three-fight win streak.
Elsewhere on the list of suspensions for the UFC 273 event, The Korean Zombie absorbed 153 strikes in his KO loss to Alexander Volkanovski but was only suspended for 14 days.
Khamzat Chimaev and Gilbert Burns have fought Fight of the Year at the event, with Chimaev receiving a 30-day ban while Burns received no ban from the Florida Commission.
