Sam Ryder announced as UK Eurovision Act for 2022

Sam Ryder will represent the UK at the 2022 Eurovision Song Contest.

The news was announced on Greg James’s Breakfast on Radio 1 program on Thursday morning by Eurovision fan Scott Mills.

Sam, 31, a native of Essex, has built a whopping 12 million followers on TikTok after entertaining fans with vibrant covers of the likes of Adele, Michael Jackson and Blondie during the pandemic. .

Making the announcement, Scott told listeners: “We need to stand behind our actions this year because everyone else is doing the same.

“Stop mocking – even if you don’t like it,” he continued. “The more we follow this person and the more we support them together, like we would choose England, Scotland or Ireland at the Word Cup, the further we go after them the more impact we can have on the level of their popularity abroad.

“I believe this is our best shot in years,” he added. “Europe doesn’t see the competition the way we do and that has to change.”

Sam will perform Space Man, which features soaring vocals and plenty of fake voices, at the Eurovision final in Turin, Italy on May 14.

The UK hopes to have more luck this year after finishing bottom of the rankings in 2021.

Singer James Newman finished in last place with zero points, the second time this has happened to the UK.

Hopeful Sam already has a strong fan base and is the most viewed UK artist on TikTok in 2020.

His breakthrough moment came when he posted a version of Britney Spears’ Hit Me Baby One More Time, which caught his attention because he liked Justin Bieber and Alicia Keys.

Sam’s cover of What’s going on by 4NonBlondes has been viewed 55 million times.
