UK sanctions 370 more individuals for Russia’s invasion of Ukraine – POLITICO

LONDON – The UK has sanctioned an additional 370 Russians for the war in Ukraine.

The list includes 51 tycoons and their family members, as well as government insiders.

Much of the sanctions announced today are made possible thanks to new legislation against economic crime passed by the UK parliament on Monday night. This allows ministers to speed up the process of appointing individuals and entities for punishment.

Those added to the list include Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin, Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu, former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev, Dmitry Peskov, Vladimir Putin’s press secretary, and Russian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Maria Zakharova .

Mickhail Fridman, German Khan and Petr Aven, all three affiliated with Alfa Bank, Russia’s largest private bank, are among the sanctioned oligarchs, along with Andrey Melnichenko, founder of EuroChem Group ; Viktor Vekselberg, owner of the Renova Group; and Alexey Mordaschov, major shareholder of the steel company Severstal.

They are all affected by the freezing of all their assets in the UK and the ban on entry to the UK.

The UK has also sanctioned eight entities, including the Internet Research Agency, which the West accuses of promoting conspiracy theories.

“We are going further and faster than ever in attacking those closest to Putin – from the big oligarchs, to his Prime Minister, and the propagandists who advertise his words. his lies and misinformation. We are holding them accountable for their complicity in Russia’s crimes in Ukraine,” British Foreign Secretary Liz Truss said.
