Ukrainian troops engage in bloody street battles in Severodonetsk after retaking half of the key city from waves of Russian troops.

Moscow is stacking tanks and reinforcements in the crucial city, the loss of which would mean Russia would control virtually the entire Luhansk region.

Kyiv is in a race against time to prepare troops to deploy key British and US-supplied missiles capable of repelling the invasion.

Britain sends M270 Multi Launch Rocket Systems capable of hitting targets from 50 miles away and US sends deadly M-142 missiles.

During a visit near the Severodonetsk Front, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy rallied troops and told them: “What you all deserve is victory – that’s the most important thing.”

It was a rare trip outside of the capital Kyiv, which was hit by missiles over the weekend for the first time in many weeks as Russia tried to smash supply lines.

Moscow is desperately trying to stop the flow of military supplies from the West, which could seriously hamper its troops’ slow advance in the Donbass region.

Ukrainian surveillance teams across the West are trying to hunt down covert Russian spies trying to figure out how Kyiv is transporting missile systems to the front lines.

Zelenskyy vowed his military “has every chance to fight back” after his officials admitted they had lost ground to the Russian advance in Severodonetsk.

Ukraine’s Defense Ministry said Russia is throwing troops and weapons into its push to seize Severodonetsk, the largest remaining Ukrainian city in the Luhansk province of Donbass.

Ukraine’s position in the city is dangerous and could become the bloodiest battlefield of the war as the Kremlin is suspected of preparing a new offensive from the Black Sea.

Luhansk Governor Serhiy Gaidai said: “Our defenders managed to counterattack for a while, liberating almost half of the city.

But now the situation has gotten a little worse for us.”

The city has become the main target of Russia’s attrition offensive in Ukraine’s Donbass region, which consists of Luhansk and Donetsk provinces.

New British missile systems would give the Ukrainians the more precise, long-range firepower they need to reach Russian artillery units, which are key to Moscow’s battle plans.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said Moscow will respond to Western supplies of long-range arms to Ukraine by pushing Ukrainian forces further back from Russia’s border.

Cities in western Ukraine and central Kyiv are preparing for more long-range missile attacks after Russian President Vladimir Putin announced his forces will strike new targets if the West supplies Ukraine with long-range missiles.

Four large Russian landing ships are sailing from Sevastopol in Crimea, which was occupied by Russia in 2014, towards Ukraine’s Black Sea coast.

It is also suspected that Moscow has stationed missile-loaded submarines in the Black Sea bound for Ukraine, all of which are loaded with long-range missiles capable of reaching all of Ukraine.
