Ukraine Russia war LIVE: Putin’s men ‘kidnapped’ Ukraine mayor in ‘new phase of terrorism’ – World News

Echoes of war continue to rip through Ukraine as the United States expresses concern that Putin could unleash chemical weapons, as his military has now kidnapped the mayor of Melitopol.

Ukraine has accused Russian forces of kidnapping Ivan Federov, the mayor of Melitopol, as they move into a “new stage of terrorism”.

President Zelensky warned that Putin has moved to the next stage of his attack by kidnapping the mayor of the southeastern city of the country.

The adviser to the Ukrainian Interior Ministry, Anton Heraschenko, announced that 10 soldiers surrounded the Melitopol crisis center on Thursday, March 10, before wrapping a bag over Mr. Federov’s head.

Ukrainian officials have now shared CCTV footage that they claim shows the moment their colleague was kidnapped by Putin’s men.

The clip follows the moment a group of masked men lead another man from the building.

However, Moscow has yet to comment on the kidnapping claims.

In a speech on Friday, March 11, Ukrainian President Zelensky described his colleague as “a brave mayor who defends Ukraine and members of his community”.

He said: “This is clearly a sign of the weakness of the aggressors… They have moved into a new stage of terrorism, in which they are trying to materially remove the representative of the local government. Ukraine’s legal method.”

“Therefore, the arrest of the mayor of Melitopol is a crime, not just against a particular person, against a particular community, and not just against Ukraine. It is a crime against democracy itself. …

“The actions of the Russian aggressors will be seen as the actions of the Islamic State terrorists.”
