Ukraine’s president says his country is committed to peace but ‘ready for anything.’

In his address to the nation early Tuesday, President Volodymyr Zelensky of Ukraine said his country “is not afraid of anything” and called for international support when President Vladimir V. Putin came out. ordered Russian military forces to deploy to two breakaway regions in eastern Ukraine.

  • “Ukraine clearly considers the recent actions of the Russian Federation as a violation of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of our state. All responsibility for the consequences of these decisions rests with Russia’s political leadership.

  • “We expect clear support steps and effective support steps from our partners. It is very important to see who is our true friend and partner.”

  • “Currently there is no reason for chaotic action. We will do everything to keep it that way in the future. We are committed to the path of peace and diplomacy.”

  • “We are on our own land. We are not afraid of anything or anyone,” Zelensky said in comments concluding Russia’s 2014 annexation of Crimea. We don’t owe anyone and we won’t give it to anyone, and we’re sure of that, because it’s not February 2014, it’s February 2022 – another country, another Another army, one goal: peace, peace in Ukraine. ”
