A distraught Ukrainian mother has her two-year-old daughter’s contact details written on her back in case her family is killed when her country is invaded by Russia.
Sasha Makoviy shared the heartbreaking picture of her baby girl, Vira, with her name, date of birth and phone numbers scrawled on her back with a pen.
It comes amid mounting evidence of atrocities committed by invading Russian troops – with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy holding back tears during his visit to Bucha yesterday.
The city near the capital Kyiv is littered with the bodies of women and children massacred by Moscow soldiers.
World leaders including US President Joe Biden have called for Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin to be tried for war crimes.
In her Instagram post, mum Sasha said: “I signed Vira in case anything happened to us and someone would pick her up as a survivor.”

She went on to explain that she first took the unusual precaution on the first day of the invasion on February 24, when she heard the blasts getting closer.
The family are safe now, but Sasha shared the photo as a sobering reminder of how far innocent civilians have been pushed.
And with both women and children being targeted by invading forces, including kidnapped from the besieged port city of Mariupol and taken to the occupied Donbass region or to Russia itself, Ukrainians are never safe.

Sasha’s post continued, “The photo shows Vira’s back on the first day of the war. I signed it with very trembling hands. But why tell you?
“You already know what it’s like to wake up to the deafening and powerful sounds of explosions that can be heard tens of kilometers away. I trembled like you for the first few hours.
“Then an even crazier thought crossed my mind: ‘Why didn’t I tattoo her with that information?'”

The mum then shared another snap of a handwritten contact card she tucked into Vira’s jacket, which includes her and her parents’ names and phone numbers.
Others said they did the same.
One replied: “On the first day of the war, I did the same for my three-year-old son.
“And although we are with him in England now, the newspaper is always with him.”
Some people even said they sewed contact information into their children’s clothing or made bracelets with their details.
