A Ukrainian woman was reportedly raped at gunpoint by Russian soldiers who killed her husband.
On March 9, Natalya* and her family were forced to flee their home when soldiers shot their dog dead, despite a white sheet hanging at the gate to indicate no one posed a threat on the property.
The 33-year-old said the unit’s commander, who introduced himself as Mikhail Romanov, appeared to be drunk and intentionally damaged her car so she could not escape.
Later that day, after the sun had set, she heard a single shot and went outside to see her husband’s body lying by the front gate. The Times reported.
“This younger guy put (a) gun to my head and said, ‘I shot your husband because he’s a Nazi,'” she told the newspaper.
When their four-year-old son hid in the boiler room, the two soldiers forced Natalya to undress and then raped them one by one, sources said.
“You better shut up or I’ll get your kid and show him his mother’s brain all over the house,” they said.
She added: “The whole time they held the gun to my head and taunted me saying, ‘How do you think she sucks on that? Should we kill them or let them live?’”
Natalya went to her son when the ordeal was over and found him paralyzed with fear.
The troops, so drunk “they could hardly stand,” returned 20 minutes later and raped them again before falling asleep on chairs, the Times reported.
Natalya grabbed her son and fled the house, the boy having to pass his father’s corpse on the way out.
They have since made it as far as Ternopil, the Ukrainian city where other family members have already found shelter.
Natalya said her son does not know what happened to his father and believes he is alive and well at the home.
She finds solace in unconfirmed reports that Romanov was killed by Ukrainian forces in Brovary.
Last week, Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba confirmed plans to seek justice before the International Criminal Court for reported rapes recognized as war crimes.
She said Ukraine had informed Russia that an arrest warrant had been issued for the soldier.
Ukraine’s Prosecutor General Iryna Venediktova launched the country’s first official rape investigation into the case.

Ukrainian MP Maria Mezentseva said on Sky News’ Sophy Ridge on Sunday: “There is one case that has been discussed at great length recently because it was recorded and handled by the prosecutor’s office and we don’t go into detail, but it is one of those cases quite frightening scene when a civilian was shot dead in his home in a small town near Kyiv.
“His wife was – I’m sorry but I have to say it – raped several times in front of their minor child.”
Ms Mezentseva said cases were underreported.
“There are many more victims than just this one case made public by the attorney general’s office,” she said.
“And of course we expect a lot more from them to come out publicly once the victims are willing to speak up.”
“So you know, when we’ve spoken to Boris Johnson, when we’ve spoken to your Home Office, when we’ve spoken to UK MPs, we’ve also raised this issue which has these consequences, which we are now dealing with with the aftermath of the War has to be taken very carefully and very seriously, taking into account the experiences of the UK and other countries that can help us in dealing with psychologists and how we can actually help these people get through these cases, then move on, move on after that. “
