A Ukrainian refugee who eloped with his married British sponsor while staying with his family has hit back at claims she is a “do-it-yourselfer”.

Sofiia Karkadym says she “didn’t steal from anyone” – stressing their relationship was “real and wonderful”.

The 22-year-old left Lviv, Ukraine, when her country was under attack. She was placed with Tony Garnett, 29, his wife Lorna and their two children in Bradford, Yorkshire, in May.

But the doting father started falling for Sofiia just days after she moved in with them.

As their relationship progressed, Tony moved out of his marital home and began living in his parents’ house with his new girlfriend.

However, weeks after the refugee’s arrival, the father left the family home

He says he has fallen in love with her and wants to spend the rest of his life with the fugitive – but both parties have come under fire.

Now she has spoken out addressing the claims that she destroyed the family, saying: “Finally, I decided to write a post about world famous recent events.

“The first thing I would like to say is that I have not stolen anyone from the family. It was his conscious and considered decision, the decision of a 29-year-old man who has the right to fall in love, the right to fall in love be happy to fall in love and has the right to choose who he is with.

“The second thing I want to cover is the concept of the ‘Yellow Press.’ Do you really think that someone can be kidnapped from a happy family in 10 days?

“If you read nonsense about stars shining in a corner for advertising – do you believe that? I doubt it. Then why so much attention to my story when it is clearly exaggerated and written as dramatically as possible?”

She added: “The third is actually provocations from Russia, which Ukraine was happy to pick up on.

“And the fourth – Anthony and I are fine.

“Therefore, those who have supported me from the beginning and knew that there is something real and wonderful behind my every action – thank you. The rest – you will be disappointed in your judgments.”

She has been accused of ruining a relationship after becoming involved with the Brit

Sofia has previously said her parents are ashamed of her

Tony later took to Sofia’s Instagram to share the news: “Tony Garnett here posting this on Sofia’s Instagram.

“How wrong many of you are with negativity, from withheld facts. The truth will be revealed soon.”

Sofia has previously said her family is ashamed of her and cannot bear to be public about her actions.

She previously told The Sun: “I’ve had people write to me and say I’m a terrible person, that I’ve done something bad for my country.

“Everyone in the UK thinks the same thing because I’m taking a man from the family – but it’s all lies.

“I’m not a homewrecker, that’s bulls**t. I never thought or planned to go into her house and take Tony from Lorna, as far as I’m concerned they destroyed their relationship long before I arrived.”
