UKRAINIAN soldiers are said to be ready to “rip the Russians apart with their bare hands” as the country prepares to fend off an invasion.
It comes amid fears Russia could invade in the next few days as Vladimir Putin deploys 100,000 troops on the border with Ukraine.
Speaking from a military base in Popasna, Lieutenant General Oleksandr Pavliuk told Times: “We have about half a million people who have been through a war in this country where they have lost someone or something.
“Half a million people have lost the blood of their loved ones, their homes, their friends, and they are ready to tear apart Russians with their bare hands.”
He added: “If our intelligence predicts the main direction of the Russian attack, then after the first major losses they will not go any further.
“Putin realized that after heavy casualties, his army could stop on its own. You cannot trust intuition in this. It’s about cold calculation.”
The general added that February 20 is a date of interest as it is seen as a potential start date for the invasion, with the Winter Olympics and Russia-Belarus exercises on the border drawing to a close.
