Update on traffic lights causing traffic chaos on the A27 in Worthing

National Highways has provided an update on traffic lights causing traffic chaos during rush hour.

Motorists reported that traffic lights on the westbound A27 Arundel Road near Offington Corner, Worthing, switched to red “every five seconds” yesterday morning.

The lights caused delays from around 7am and there were queues of around 45 minutes.

There were traffic jams over a distance of around 1.5 kilometers.

A spokeswoman for National Highways said: “I can confirm that in the inspection work log, an engineer was on site and found no error with the traffic light.”

National Highways was asked for further comment on why the traffic lights were changing so quickly.
