The US Ambassador to Ireland congratulated GAA expert Joe Brolly and his wife Laurita Blewitt on recently tying the knot.
oe and Laurita, a well-known podcaster and cousin of US President Joe Biden, got engaged last year and married last Saturday.
US Ambassador to Ireland Claire Cronin tweeted a photo of herself and the happy couple as she wrote: “Congratulations to the newlyweds!”
That Sunday independent The columnist married Laurita in an intimate ceremony attended by 100 family and friends at The Ice House Hotel in Co Mayo.
The couple exchanged vows surrounded by family and friends on the banks of the River Moy, with views across the river and out to the Wild Atlantic Way.
Clutching a bouquet of pale pink and white roses, the bride looked stunning in a long white gown with delicate lace sleeves, while the groom wore a speckled three-piece suit and orange tie.
Guests at the wedding included promoter Peter Aiken, comedian Conor Moore – the comedian in charge Conor’s sketches – and stand-up comic Tommy Tiernan, who co-hosts a podcast with Laurita and Hector Ó hEochagáin.
With over 10 million downloads worldwide, Laurita’s podcast with the two comedians is one of the most successful in Ireland.
Also present from the sporting world were former Kerry footballer Tomás Ó Sé, former Meath footballer Bernard Flynn and former Dublin manager Pat Gilroy.
Two pioneers of organ donation, the prominent surgeon Prof. Dr. David Hickey and Dr. Tim Brown were also guests on the day for Brolly, who donated a kidney to a stranger in 2012.
Brolly’s friend Fr Liam McClarey officiated at the ceremony after which guests proceeded to a party at the Knockmore GAA Club in Ballina.
