US harvest spree set to begin with world food reserves at stake

Farmers from Nebraska to Ohio are nearing the final stretch of one of the most tumultuous growing seasons on record, and the world now anxiously awaits whether U.S. corn and soybean harvests will be large enough to revitalize supplies depleted by war and weather.

A closely watched industry harvest tour will attempt to find out this week, when dozens of growers, grain buyers and analysts hit the fields to get a first-hand look at the condition of crops used for forage, food and fuel. In particular, the scouts will assess the effects of the scorching heat and lack of rain that has hit key parts of the Farm Belt in recent months.
