US investors realized 6x more crypto profits in 2021 than the next country

Crypto investors from the United States achieved total crypto profits nearly 6 times greater than from the UK, the second-highest country in terms of realized profits.

According to a report by Chainalysis, crypto investors in the US made a record $46.9 billion in realized profits during 2021, leading the rest of the world by a wide margin. The USA is followed at some distance by Great Britain with 8.1 billion dollars and Germany with 5.8 billion dollars.

The report comes as global cryptocurrency adoption continues to gain momentum. The US saw a massive surge in adoption and realized profits, with total estimated profits for 2021 up 476% from $8.1 billion the year before.

Special mention was given to countries that outperformed their ‘traditional’ economic rankings. Although Turkey ranks 11th in the world by GDP, the country was ranked 6th when it comes to realized crypto profits.

China was one of the few major nations that didn’t experience the same massive gains as other countries. In 2021, China’s estimated total cryptocurrency profits were $5.1 billion, up from $1.7 billion in 2020, representing a 194% CAGR. However, this is still impressive growth given the extensive crypto bans that have been phased in in China in 2021.

However, China’s performance pales in comparison to other countries like the UK and Germany, which posted gains of 431% and 423% respectively over the past year.

Another notable trend has been the surge in Ethereum (ETH) aggregate profits, with ETH investors around the world withdrawing a total of $76.3 billion, making Bitcoin (BTC) the crypto asset with the highest realized returns for the year 2021 passed.
