Since its release in Early Access last year, the Viking survival title Valheim has seen 10 million Vikings enter the afterlife. Developer Iron Gate Studio looked back on the year and gave players a preview of the upcoming Mistlands update.
Walheim took Steam by storm last year, rocketing up the charts thanks to its unique atmosphere and approach to the survival genre. The indie title sold millions of copies in its first few months and has only seen more and more players jump in to try Viking life after death.
Iron Gate Studios and publisher Coffee Stain are now celebrating 10 million players in Walheim this week and stated that they “never imagined” their title would be this big.
About today’s press release:
“We never imagined Valheim would grow so big, not even in our wildest dreams, and the past year has gone by faster than we anticipated,” said Richard Svensson, CEO of Iron Gate Studio. “Our team has doubled in size since launch, and knowing that Valheim is played by millions of players around the world is both an honor and a humble one. Our ambitions for the game have never been greater and Mistlands development is in full swing – we can’t wait to bring this new mysterious biome to the game.”
Development of the Mistlands update is ongoing and while we don’t have an exact release date, it is Walheim Developers say players should see it this year. Over the past few weeks, developers have been providing more insight into the new biome update, which is hopefully a trend that will continue as we get closer to its later launch.
