A new action RPG from Square Enix called Valkyrie Elysium was announced in Sony’s State of Play, a new entry in the Valkyrie franchise that began with Valkyrie Records in 1999. It will launch on PS5 and PS4 in 2022.
Valkyrie Elysium was revealed with a gameplay trailer showing some exploration and combat in a fantasy world, as well as some teases about what its story might entail. A PlayStation blog post explains that “The Valkyrie series depicts the end of humanity and their encounter with the gods through a unique world inspired by Norse mythology.”
It seems unlikely that Valkyrie Elysium will connect too directly with other Valkyrie games, as the same blog post also describes it as “a brand new indie adventure.” The final entry in the Valkyrie series is a mobile game called Valkyrie Anatomia: The Origin that was originally released in Japan in 2016 before coming to the West in 2019.
A few other details that have been shared are that Valkyrie Elysium will bring back the series’ recruitable warriors known as Einherjar, as well as composer Motoi Sakuraba for the soundtrack. Also, it has been confirmed that it will run at 4K and 60fps on PlayStation 5.
The name Valkyrie Elysium itself may be familiar to some fans, as people noticed that Square Enix first trademarked it in Japan last October before doing the same in other regions. other areas at the end of February.
