Valorant has pushed the boundaries of in-game cosmetics by producing some of the most elaborate and impressive weapon skins ever seen in an FPS. To keep producing so many skins, Riot Games explained in a recent interview by Twinfinite what a well-oiled machine the development team working on Valorant skins at Riot Games is.
When asked how designs are conceived, and how many new valorant skins are being crafted at once, here’s what he said:
“…there are a lot of skins being worked on at the same time, all in different stages. While an animator brings Skin A to life, a sound designer works on Skin B, and a VFX artist perfects performances on Skin C. It’s also not uncommon to switch between some tasks on different skinlines based on priority. When it comes to brainstorming stages, we have pitch sessions where we bring the team together to explore a range of ideas, form teams and push some concepts a bit.“
As we quoted in another recent article, Ceriani also stated that the team has done so “Weekly playtest sessions dedicated solely to testing new skins.” Though he was silent when it came to the actual details of all new Valorant skin bundle designs, he left the door open for more sequel bundles that we’ve seen so much lately, like Reaver and Ion 2.0:
“There are skins that we love, that players love, and that fit that criteria. So if the stars are aligned, why not? Of course, I can’t give any details about what we’re working on, but we’ve done it a few times before, so we might do it again in the future.“
Stay tuned for more excerpts from our interview with Nicolas Ceriani this week ahead of the full release.
