Victoria Beckham: ‘Wanting to be very skinny is an old-fashioned attitude’

Victoria Beckham has described wanting to be very thin as “an old-fashioned attitude” and suggested that women today want to look “healthy and curvy”.

he Spice Girl and fashion designer, 48, appears on the cover of Grazia as she launches a new form-fitting capsule collection called VB Body.

The line takes the star back to her form-fitting first collection of outfits in the mid-2000s, prior to the founding of her fashion empire.

Her pieces were inspired in part by a stint in Miami, where her husband, soccer star David, co-owns the Inter Miami soccer team.

She told the magazine, “There’s a lot of really curvy women in Miami, and they really own it, you know? They walk down Miami Beach without putting on much clothing and they look amazing.

“They show off their bodies with so much confidence. I found both her attitude and her style really liberating.

“And as a mom, I loved the fact that (her daughter) Harper dated women who really celebrated their curves and enjoyed their looks.”

Beckham added: “It’s an old-fashioned attitude to want to be really skinny.

“I think women today want to look healthy and curvy. You want to have some breasts – and a butt. The curvier you are, the better my VB body dresses look.”

The mother-of-four said she wants to get “as good a bum as possible” and did squats every morning while also changing her fitness routine to focus on lifting heavy weights five or six days a week with David and her to focus personal trainer.

“I’ve always been a little scared of weights, but turns out I love them. I even have these special gloves to put on,” she said.

“It’s good to change things up and keep the body ignorant. I have so much more muscle tone now.”

When asked how David is as a training partner, she said: “Hilarious. I mean, of course he’s great in the gym, but in our sessions he’s always the one procrastinating.”

Beckham also hinted that her husband is a fan of the new look.

She said: “As much as I dress for myself, I also love the fact that he loves me in these clothes. Men love to see a bit of shape.”

The couple, who married on July 4, 1999, are parents to four children – sons Brooklyn, 23, Romeo, 19, and Cruz, 17, and daughter Harper, 10.
