MARTIN Freeman is back with his new major crime show, The Responder – but there’s one REAL thing to talk about tonight.
The series follows an unusual emergency responder handling a series of rhythmic night shifts in Liverpool.
The six-part series follows Chris (Martin), an unusual, morally compromised emergency responder in crisis.
The show focused on him tackling a series of night shifts to the beat in Liverpool.
But it was Martin’s “right” Liverpool accent that made viewers actually speak.
One person wrote: “Fair play with Martin Freeman. 5 minutes in and that’s an acceptable overkill.”
While another said: “Martin Freeman’s snappy voice is so true. Non-native accents often make my teeth itch but this is really impressive.”
This person commented: “Wow Martin Freeman, the voice is amazing – I’m impressed.”
Speaking of the role, Martin told the BBC: “When Laurence Bowen first sent me the script, he was very excited and after reading the first few pages, and I felt like this was really something else. .
“It’s not a movie written by committee, it’s Tony Schumacher unfiltered, and I really like that he puts whatever he wants on the page.
“Tony has been writing scripts for a long time but the fact that this is his first TV series means that he is far from falling into a comfortable or formulaic rut.
“He just puts on the page whatever he thinks needs to be there and that’s really exciting.”
The Respondent was first announced in February 2020, but filming was delayed due to the coronavirus pandemic..
- The series will resume on Mondays at 9pm.
