Viola Davis says newly acquired EGOT status ‘deeply moved me’

Viola Davis said that her Grammy Award win and subsequent rise to EGOT status “touched me immensely”.

the actress, who won the coveted title on Sunday, also said on Instagram that her mind has been “blown away”.

EGOT status refers to artists who have won all four major US art awards; an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony Award.

Posting a tribute photo, Davis wrote: “Thank you @cbstv and @recordingacademy! You all blew my mind and made me so emotional.”

She then paid tribute to fellow artist Adrian Hall, the founding director of Trinity Repertory Company, after his death at the age of 95 was announced over the weekend.

Davis said she became a professional actress at the age of 23, after obtaining an Actor’s Equity Card with Hall’s help.

“It was ironic that he left this earth the weekend that I became an EGOT. We all stand on the shoulders of giants AND on the shoulders of those who believe in us,” she wrote in a separate post.

“Thank you for meeting me, Adrian, and for your legacy. I received the baton and will run my race….Be brave!”

Davis won the Grammy Award for Best Audio, Narrative and Storytelling for Finding Me, which was featured at the award’s launch ceremony ahead of Sunday’s main event – becoming part of an 18-member club. EGOT tablets.
