VIRGIN Atlantic has been forced to cancel some flights through February due to continued travel restrictions.
The airline has emailed travelers with flights to Hong Kong that all flights from London Heathrow to the city have been suspended until February 7.
Email, shared on social media“As a result of Covid-19 and changing global travel restrictions, we are constantly reviewing our flight programme.
“Unfortunately, this meant we had to make some schedule changes and cancellations.
“We regret to inform you that we have made the difficult decision to suspend all passenger services from London Heathrow to Hong Kong until and including 7 February 2022, when We work with the authorities to overcome the current operational challenges on this route.”
A spokesperson for Virgin Atlantic told Sun Online Travel: “We continue to carefully assess the conditions under which we can operate our routes, while Covid-related restrictions are changing the capacity of our routes. always put the health and safety of customers and people first.
“After careful consideration of the London Heathrow – Hong Kong schedule, we have made the difficult decision to extend the suspension of all passenger services until 8 February 2022, when we work with authorities to overcome current operational challenges on this route.
“We apologize for the inconvenience caused to our customers and we will contact them as soon as possible regarding their options, including a full refund.
“We hope to restore this service as soon as possible, providing a vital link between the UK and Hong Kong for customers and the global supply chain.”
Earlier this week, Hong Kong announced that eight countries have been included Incoming flight ban list, taking place from January 8.
This includes the UK, along with France, Australia, the US, Canada, India, Pakistan and the Philippines.
The suspension lasts for at least two weeks, but can be extended.
Hong Kong’s ban comes as the latest travel blow to Britons hoping to go abroad.
Other countries are imposing new travel restrictions, with Spain and Cyprus require Covid testing from all arrivals, even if fully vaccinated.
Some are choosing to lift the restrictions instead – Germany has lifted the UK’s ban while France insists it will ease some restrictions.
