If you’ve ever had the pleasure of visiting Ireland, you probably already know that the stunning Cliffs of Moher are a must-see.

Thousands of tourists travel to County Clare each year to see the beautiful landmark, which is well documented as one of Ireland’s top tourist attractions – but that doesn’t mean everyone will be impressed.

The Cliffs of Moher has over 14,000 excellent reviews Trip Advisorthe vast majority, and is clearly a hit with most visitors Irish mirror reports.

But the fact of the matter is, you can’t always please everyone, but when you read what some of the less-than-impressed visitors had to say, you wonder why they even bothered to visit the first place.

Tourists flock to the place of natural beauty

One American tourist was unfazed by the safety precautions put in place on the cliffs, Oklahoma resident Bobby said: “Continuous 4.5-foot tile panels set 15 feet from the edge of the cliff have been laid around the most scenic areas, presumably.” to prevent idiots and small children from falling out.

“The result is often that even for someone quite tall like me, only the top halves of the cliffs are visible.

“Long stretches of walled path are only wide enough for 1 person at a time and border a barbed wire fence (fortunately turned off). Squeezing into others for several hundred yards while trying to avoid snagging on the barbed wire greatly diminishes the romance prospects.”

The visitor center actually clapped back at this review, stressing why these slabs are needed, they said: ‘The flagstone walls are constructed from Liscannor stone which has been used by local people for centuries to ensure a safe distance from the cliff edge is maintained of humans and animals alike.

“There are three main observation decks at the Visitor Experience, the main deck and a north and south deck. You can also see the cliffs from the top of O’Brien’s Tower entrance, which is included with your admission ticket. Our staff are stationed around the island including the viewing platforms and will be happy to help you with the best spots to watch the birds or the sea ridge.”

One Australian complained about the crowds there and dubbed it the ‘Tourists’ Cliffs’, not expecting a lively crowd despite it being Ireland’s most visited attraction.

They added: “Friends told me this was a pristine place when they visited years ago – when there was no bus parking, no entrance fee, a strip of souvenir shops or crowds.”

Another Dutch visitor had a similar problem: “The cliffs are spectacular. But there are so many people that it feels like a sardine in a can. We went to Fogher Cliff on Valentia Island. Nobody around, nice cliff but much smaller than the Cliffs of Moher.”

An unfortunate German tourist came on a very foggy day and was angry that he didn’t get a discount and said: “They charged the same price even if you can’t see anything – €8 per person. It’s just a giant tourist trap! !!!!!

“The cliffs are probably stunning, but there are also many great sights along the coast!”
