A Russian ammunition depot in the Kherson region is reportedly on fire
A Russian ammunition depot was destroyed by Ukrainian forces in what will be another blow to Vladimir Putin.
Images show black smoke billowing into the sky after the rocket attack on the outpost in occupied Kherson Oblast, sources said The Express.
Snapshots from gun trackers were released Thursday and are said to show the damage caused by the strike in the southern Ukraine town of Nova Kakhovka.
Another photo shows the remains of an exploded missile with an overturned truck in the background. Three Russian supply trucks and an armored support vehicle were reportedly hit in the attack.
Confirming the attack on Ukraine 24, a nationwide TV channel, Serhiy Khlan, an adviser to the head of the Kherson region state administration, said: “At noon today, our forces attacked the ammunition depot and the military equipment repair center, which was located in the city of Nova Kakhovka in one of the industrial zones, very punctual and purposeful. It got there very clearly. It detonated from noon until late at night.”
The blast also caused the decimation of trees and a supply truck marked with the now-familiar “Z” symbol.
Kherson, a coastal region where mainland Ukraine meets Crimea, is currently occupied and controlled by Russian forces that entered through Crimea in the initial invasion.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has repeatedly stated that he would only be satisfied with restoring full sovereignty to Ukraine and has indicated a desire to return to the nation’s pre-2014 borders.
Russia’s military failure in the invasion has likely cost the vastly superior army the chance of a full-scale invasion and signaled a move towards an annexation of the Donbass region to the east.
It came the night before Boris Johnson pulled out of a last-minute conference of Northern Tory MPs to jet to Kyiv for a surprise visit to Ukraine.
The prime minister met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Friday, where he offered a major training program in support of Ukrainian troops, with the operation having the potential to assist up to 10,000 troops every 120 days.
Mr Johnson said: “My visit today to the depths of this war is intended to send a clear and simple message to the Ukrainian people: Britain is with you and we will be with you until you ultimately prevail.
“While Ukrainian soldiers fire British missiles in defense of their nation’s sovereignty, they are also doing so in defense of the very freedoms we take for granted.
“That’s why I’ve offered President Zelenskyy a major new military training program that could change the equation of this war – by harnessing the most powerful of forces to win Ukrainian resolve.”
“Two months after my last visit, Ukraine’s courage, determination and resilience are stronger than ever, and I know that unbreakable determination will long outlast President Putin’s vain ambitions.”
Mr Zelensky observed: “Many days of this war have proved Britain’s firm and resolute support to Ukraine.
“I am delighted to see our country’s great friend Boris Johnson back in Kyiv.”
